Robert Beauchamp, BMC Software Inc.'s new president and chief executive, aims to be unpredictable.
One of his first acts since becoming CEO on Jan. 5, was to make a bigger push into storage network management.
With backing from storage giants Brocade Communications Systems Inc. and EMCCorp., Houston-based BMC plans to sell more of the technology that businesses use to track data storage.
Beauchamp says BMC's approach to the market will catch rivals off guard.
He likens the strategy to a famous incident from the 1991 Gulf War: An Iraqigeneral fighting against coalition forces said, "You didn't fight fair -- you came at us where we weren't expecting you."
