BlackRock made its debut Oct. 1, 1999, at $14. The stock then gained 284% from late October to early December. After hitting a high of 48 on Dec. 8, it pulledback. It's currently working on the right side of an eight-week base, sitting 11% off its high.

After spending more than six weeks below its 50-day moving average, the stock closed above the line on Friday.

The investment firm is a thinly traded stock, averaging 63,000 shares a day. But

sponsorship has picked up in the past four quarters to 47 mutual funds owning 2.21 million shares from 10 funds with 505,000 shares.
