Charter school choices in Clark County will expand Monday when two new programs open to provide additional public school options to area parents.
The debut of the Explore Knowledge Academy and the Clark County Team Academy will bring the total number of charter schools in Nevada to 14.
Charter schools, created under state legislation passed six years ago, are public and receive the same level of state per-pupil funding that goes to regular public schools.
Although they are monitored by the Nevada Department of Education and local school district officials, charter schools operate as independent programs.
The Explore Knowledge Academy has reached its capacity, with an enrollment of 300 students in grades 1-12, and has established a waiting list.
