2003 AUG 20 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Advances in transfection using cationic lipids for DNA delivery still have some problems, but use in humans is close.

According to recent research published in the journal Current Medicinal Chemistry, "Among other strategies, the use of cationic lipids as autoassembling vehicles for non-viral DNA transfection has received considerable attention. Exponentially growing literature has been published on this topic (over 700 hits for the past decade, including 400 in the last 2 years).

"The present review focuses on the main present strategies aiming at improving cationic lipid-induced transfection, and on some of the frequently encountered problems that should be solved to apply these non-viral vectors for human health," wrote C. Nicolazzi and colleagues.
