2003 AUG 20 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- A researcher has published a review of current research into developing vaccines for filoviruses in the International Journal for Parasitology.

According to a study from the United States, "Ebola and Marburg viruses belong to the family Filoviridae, and cause acute, frequently fatal, hemorrhagic fever in humans and nonhuman primates. No vaccines are available for human use."

"This review describes the status of research efforts to develop vaccines for these viruses and to identify the immune mechanisms of protection," stated Mary Kate Hart at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.
