Phone company changes 3 exchanges to digital

New Tork Telephone Co. has connected 21,000 Buffalo customers to a new digital call-switching system.

The change will affect customers in the 836,837 and 838 exchanges in three ways, New York Telephone said in a prepared release.

* Customers who use touch-tone phones, but are not paying for touch-tone lines, now are unable to make calls. They will be required to pay a $10 connection fee.
