Pace enters race for club in Falls
Kmart also plans first WNY Builders Square
Slices of the Niagara Falls retailing pie are about to get thinner as Kmart Corp. prepares to bring two of it subsidiaries to the city.
Negotiations are underway to bring a Builders Square and Pace Membership Warehouse Inc. outlet to a vacant, 50-acre parcel on Niagara Falls Boulevard about a mile from the Niagara Section of the Thruway.
"We know who comes into our Cheektowaga store," said Thomas Vander Ark, a Pace vice president. "It is obviously an objective of ours to be in Niagara Falls."
"If Denver can have five Pace stores, there is no reason why Buffalo and Niagara Falls can't have that many," said Vander Ark, vice president of strategic planning and marketing. "After all the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area isn't that much smaller than Denver." …
