WHAT A CONCEPT; Chevy's SSR is more than just a new truck for GM.(News)

With the unveiling of the Chevy SSR at the 2000 Detroit auto show (AW, Jan. 24, 2000), GM's design boss Wayne Cherry said the two-seat convertible roadster truck, named by our staff as Most Fun at the show, embodies GM's new philosophy: "Be fast, be flexible and be first.'' We told Cherry if that philosophy was more than just a new-age business mantra, he should convince his bosses to build the SSR.
Damn if he didn't do it.
Now the question is, can a concept that held so much promise and designed-for-the-hell-of-it fun turn out to be good in production trim? To answer that question, and trying not to sound too much like The ...
