The last thing that security printer De La Rue needed, with speculation that chief executive Ian Much could be heading for an early bath, was a high-profile cock-up.

But, as if wanting to appear on the next instalment of It'll be Alright on the Night, that's just what's happened. Some of the Royal Mail's new pounds 2 stamps, printed at De La Rue Security Print based in Byfleet, didn't have the all-important 'pounds ' sign.
