This spring Vanessa Redgrave captured a Tony Award for Best Actress in Long Day's Journey Into Night, while Lynn Redgrave won the Gielgud Award, the Golden Quill, presented by the Shakespeare Guild of Washington, D.C., at a ceremony in the National Arts Club on Gramercy. Park in Manhattan (more details in our Summer issue). Their brother Corin spoke at the Gielgud ceremony. Their mother, Rachel Kempson, described by The New York Times as "the matriarch of the Redgrave acting clan and one of the clarion voices of British stage and screen" (obituary, 26 May 2003), died on 24 May at her home in Millbrook, NY.
