The Nasdaq pared its loss to 0.1% Monday on a mixed day for the market. The large-cap Nasdaq 100 rebounded to close ahead 0.2%. Trading volume rose from Friday, but stayed well below average.

Kos Pharmaceuticals gave up 11% intraday gains to close down 0.35 at 35.88. Volume surged more than fourfold. The Miami-based drug maker crushed second-quarter profit views Thursday and said it expects earnings to rise at least 50% in 2004, helped by growing sales of cholesterol-lowering drugs. The company was profiled on Friday's New America page.

CV Therapeutics skidded 7.31, or nearly 21%, to 27.87. The stock gapped below its 50-day moving …
