Verizon, unions in contract talks
The local phone giant's workers did not strike Monday as unions agreed to negotiate with Verizon Communications past a weekend deadline, citing "significant progress." The two sides met Sunday for 14 hours to resolve issues like health care costs, job security and transfers to lower-cost regions. They met again Monday. Verizon rose 5%.

Mylan's Prilosec news hits rivals
Andrx fell 10% and Pharmaceutical Resources 6% after Mylan Labs said it's selling the heartburn and ulcer drug Prilosec. Andrx and Pharmaceutical get royalties from sales of the generic. Other generic drug makers have waited on selling Prilosec until a court rules on some AstraZeneca patents. Mylan, which risks big damages, rose 2%.
