Disappointing jobs and factory data left NYSE stocks with losses on lighter trade Friday. The Dow industrials dipped 0.9%, the S&P 500 1%. For the week, the benchmark index declined 1.9%.
Doral Financial lost another 2.38, or 5.4%, a day after piercing its 50-day moving average for the first time in nearly six months. The Puerto Rican mortgage lender closed at a two-month low of 41.52.
The stock was featured in Friday's WebLink at investors.com, which pointed out weakness in mortgage-related stocks. But the firm said rising interest rates shouldn't hurt the Puerto Rican mortgage market, where it said refinancing loans are driven more by consolidation of high-rate consumer loans.
Mortgage lender IndyMac Bancorp dived 1.60 to 22.74. More than 1.4 million shares changed hands, the most this year. The firm beat second-quarter profit estimates by a penny a share. But its Relative Strength Rating has dwindled to 48.
