In 10 years, online banking might be as much a part of everyday life as ATMs are today.
That's not the case now. Only around 32% of U.S. households bank online, according to industry tracker Jupiter Research.
But that figure is expected to fatten to 53% in 2007.
"Online banking is definitely going mainstream with consumers," said analyst Jeff Baker of US Bancorp Piper Jaffray.
Digital Insight Corp. is jockeying for a piece of the action. It provides outsourced Internet banking services to small and midsize financial institutions -- those with assets in the $100 million to $20 billion range.
Founded in 1995, Digital Insight's services include online banking and lending, plus bill payment, cash management and check imaging.
