Kos Pharma up to 18-month high
The drug maker earned 31 cents a share in Q2, reversing last year's 50-cent loss and topping views by 24 cents. Revenue jumped 69% to $64.9 mil, boosted by strong sales of its Niaspan and Advicor cholesterol drugs. Kos Pharmaceuticals expects $1.20-$1.30 a share in '03 vs. its prior view for 65-75 cents. Cardinal Health dives on outlook
The drug wholesaler met Q4 views for a 20% rise to 89 cents a share. Revenue rose 15% to $13.5 bil. But Cardinal Health expects '04 profit growth in the midteens or better. Analysts said the firm had seen 20%-21%. Cardinal plunged 15% to 54.75. Rivals McKesson and AmerisourceBergen also sold off.
Gen-Probe profit smashed views
The genome-based blood diagnostic tool firm earned 34 cents a share in Q2, well above last year's 2 cents and views for 21. Sales rose 41% to $50.7 mil. Gen-Probe $1.20-$1.25 in '03 vs. its old target for $1-$1.05. Analysts see $1.12. But since Gen-Probe beat Q2 views by 13 cents, it's predicting 2nd-half profit will come in even to 5 cents shy of views. Gen-Probe, which hit a new intraday high of 59.25, fell 4% to 55.
