Netgear rises 26% in $98 mil IPO
The network gear maker, spun off from Nortel in '00, closed at 17.69 after rising to $19.25 at one point. It sold 7 mil Nasdaq shares at $14 each in its IPO, at the high end of raised price targets. Governments peek into Windows
Microsoft has given Austria, Russia, China, the U.K. and eight others access to the underlying code of its operating system as it tries to win government pacts and muffle the rising popularity of open-source Linux. Seeing the fiercely protected code makes it easier to make Windows-compatible software.
Merrill more bullish on chip stocks
Many chip stocks may rise 20% to 40% when prices and demand rise, Merrill Lynch's Joe Ohsa said. He said investors should get in before the actual recovery. He raised Intersil, Linear Technology, Maxim Integrated, Microchip Tech, National Semi and Semtech to buy from neutral. The stocks rose nicely on a strong day for techs. More on A4
