Thanks to an inventory buildup early this year, personal computer prices -- once again -- have been dropping.
That has many PC users wondering if the time is right to upgrade. They're combing the Web for deals, but it's hard to tell if they're ready to bite, analysts say.
"Vendors lowered prices to clear products in the channel in March and April," said Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies Inc. in Campbell, Calif. "They had an inventory buildup due to slow sales."
Bajarin expects big-name PC manufacturers to continue price cuts through June. By then, they'll likely have worked through their inventory, he says. Then they'll begin gearing up to sell new, higher-speed models later in the summer and fall.
So shoppers can get a good deal now, but they'll have to pass up on upcomingfeatures.
"If you're interested in buying a PC and don't need the latest and greatest, there are lot of bargains right now," Bajarin said. "It's a good time to buy."
