Investors snatched up tech stocks Friday for a second straight session. The Nasdaq composite gained 38.95 points, or 1.8%, to 2149.44 on lighter volume. For the week, the index lost 5%.

Engineered Support Systems reached a new high, jumping 3.67 to 37.02 as trade nearly tripled. On Wednesday, Sidoti & Co. started coverage of the military support equipment firm with a buy rating.

Woodward Governor notched a new high, gaining 5.21 to 80.89 on three times its typical turnover. The firm, which makes energy control systems and components for aircraft and industrial engines, will replace Avnet in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index after the June 8 close.

American Financial Holdings hit a new high, gapping up 1.66 to 22.48 on brisk volume. The holding company for American Savings Bank will also be added to the S&P SmallCap 600. The firm will replace Centura Bank after Tuesday's close.

Drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries rose 4.19 to 61.95 on above-average trade. Late Thursday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the firm's heartburn drug, Famotidine. The drug is the generic versionof Merck's Pepcid AC. The news helped push the stock above its 200-day moving average. It's ...
