The rising number of broadband users are well off and like to shop, new studies show.
People who subscribe to broadband services -- the fast Internet access offered via digital subscriber lines, cable and satellites -- are 60% more likely than other Internet users to buy goods online, says Media, Pa., researchfirm Centris.
And they spend an average of 38% more on their Web purchases than dial-up Net users, says Centris in a new report.
They also have more money to spend. Twice as many homes with broadband, compared with dial-up households, have annual incomes over $100,000, says the firm.
Five million homes used broadband in the first quarter of the year vs. 37 million dial-up households, says the poll of 22,000 homes.
"The heavy-user or high-tech households have already gone to high-speed access," said Jerilyn Kessel, a Centris co-founder. "The numbers will grow as regional offerings expand.
