Imagine yourself seated at a Las Vegas slot machine.
You're about ready to call it quits when suddenly you hear the clanging of coins dropping from the machine next to you. Not a big jackpot, but a sizable win just the same.
Before you know it, greed sets in. "Just a few more tries," you tell yourself, putting more coins into the slot.
Sure, the sound of money is a big part of the rush for slot players. But is it enough to keep casinos from adopting International Game Technology's new EZ Pay cashless voucher machines? Not likely, analysts say.
"We believe the introduction of cashless machines will continue to significantly stimulate replacement demand -- similar to the introduction of the embedded bill acceptor in the early 1990s," said analyst David Anders of Merrill Lynch.
International Game is the nation's top maker of casino machines. The companydesigns and makes the machines, and also makes proprietary software for popular MegaJackpot games such as "Wheel of Fortune" and "The Addams Family."
