Happy days are here again, at least for a handful of technology firms.
As most of the tech sector swirls down the drain, the Bush administration's proposed increases in military spending are lifting the boats of federal defense contractors.
CACI International Inc. -- a tech services firm that does more than half of its business with the Department of Defense -- could be a big beneficiary of the trend.
CACI integrates networks, computer systems and software, and manages information systems. Sales were up 21% last quarter to $148 million, and the company has more than $1.5 billion in contract backlogs.
Working for the government isn't always glamorous, says CACI Chief ExecutiveJack London. But it's reliable.
"We don't have the big margins of the commercial sector, but it's a steady, successful business with a steady cash flow," he said.
