Rainwear Organizes Tech Gear,
But Watch Out In A Downpour
The latest thing from tech-happy Japan is rainwear with special pockets for wireless widgets.
The company with the high-tech fashion gear is Sanyo Fashion House. Its New York branch sells the men's and ladies' line of coats directly or through such retailers as Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bloomingdale's and Nordstorm. Prices range from $175 to $800.
Palm Inc. co-designed the coats. Their pockets have buttons etched with symbols for Palms, cell phones, wallets, air tickets and passports, sunglasses and gloves.
The coats are rain-resistant, but not waterproof, says Danielle Messing, a Sanyo marketing official in New York. That seems odd, since electronic devices don't take well to water. You'd think a company with the Sanyo name would be more careful.
