Bush urges leaders in Congress
to extend immigration deadline
President Bush wants to extend last Monday's deadline to let illegal immigrants remain in the U.S. while they pursue legal residency. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said Bush was sending a letter to House and Senate leaders expressing his support. The change spares illegal immigrants from having to travel back to their home countries before seeking a green card. Typically, illegal immigrants who leave the U.S. are banned for up to 10 years.
Florida bans municipal gun suits
Florida became the 26th state to restrict suits against gun makers. Gov. JebBush signed the law preventing local governments from suing manufacturers for gun-related injuries and deaths. Flanked by state lawmakers and a past president of the National Rifle Association, Bush said the law would protect companies that manufacture legal products from taxpayer-financed lawsuits.
