Techs and medical stocks lifted the Nasdaq higher Monday. The index gained 40.56 points, or 2%, to 2116.24 on heavier volume. TheNasdaq 100 added 2.47% to 1855.15.
BEI Technologies surged 3.13 to 25 on six times usual trade. The electronic device maker is working on the right side of an eight-month base. It's 14% off its Sept. 1 high.
CSG Systems gained 2.23 to 58.21 on two times normal turnover. The provider of customer care and billing services for the telecom industry has formed a more than one-year base. Last week, the firm beat fiscal first-quarter profit views by 3 cents.
Cytyc rose 1.78 to 23.55 as volume doubled. The maker of medical preparationsystems broke out of a base it began in July. The firm is featured in today's "Nasdaq Stocks In The News." Fellow medical products firm Respironics added 1.72 to 31.74 as trade nearly tripled. After hitting a new high on Dec. 27, thestock pulled back but has since made its way back up. It's now 6% off its high.
SurModics reached a new high, advancing 3.39 to 55.29 on above-average turnover. The maker of products that coat medical devices has gained 47% since breaking out of a 14-week base on April 5.
