Frank Belatti likes to connect with his team.
So about twice a month, the chairman and chief executive of AFC Enterprises Inc. fires off a newsy e-mail called "Frankly Speaking" to inspire and motivateemployees.
He also meets with new franchisees of the company's fast-food eateries to discuss their aspirations and ideas.
"Anyone can step up and put money into your business," Belatti said. "But franchisees need to trust their partner, and know we're doing what we say we are to make them successful."
AFC operates and franchises more than 3,600 restaurants under the names Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits, Church's Chicken, Cinnabon bakeries, Seattle's BestCoffee and Torrefazione Italia cafes.
Belatti wants his franchisees to have a voice in the business. That might sound like an obvious strategy, but he goes to great lengths to make sure everyone has his or her say.
