U.S. Officials: Chinese Hackers

Ready To Strike Back This Week

Bad feelings about the downed American spy plane are dying hard.

The National Infrastructure Protection Center has warned computer system managers to expect defacements of American Web sites by Chinese hackers this week.

The attacks are a form of revenge for a midair collision on April 1 that left a Chinese fighter pilot dead. However, U.S. officials have not implicated Chinese state authorities for the attacks.

The NIPC says Chinese hackers have publicly discussed stepping up their operations through May 7. The week coincides with several significant dates forChina. May 1 is International Workers' Day, May 4 is Youth Day and May 7 is the second anniversary of the U.S. bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
