As the FBI put on a full-court press in its probe of two anthrax cases in Florida, a British government minister said Tuesday the al-Qaida network run by Osama bin Laden has probably acquired chemical and biological weapons.
"We know that the al-Qaida network has been trying to get hold of biological and chemical weapons for the last 10 years. We believe they've probably got some," said British Foreign Office Minister Ben Bradshaw.
"What we're not sure about is whether they've got a delivery mechanism," he told Australian Broadcasting Corp. television.
He didn't say how big the arsenal might be.
Bradshaw's warning came as U.S. officials investigated a second reported case of anthrax in Florida amid fear of more attacks.
Federal officials suspect foul play rather than an environmental source is at the root of the two Florida cases that left one man dead and hundreds of co-workers lining up for medical tests.
