Charity Finds A Home
On The Web
In the weeks following the terror attacks, relief organizations received about $676 million in donations. More than $70 million of that was given via the Web.
That's an impressive number, especially when you take into account the fact that before Sept. 11 online gifts made up less than 1% of all charitable donations.
The American Red Cross, the United Way of New York City, the Salvation Army and others have seen their online donations jump, reports The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
Analysts say the results of the last few weeks may be the start of a new trend for nonprofits. Just as the Web has grown to play a crucial role for many industries, it may now be a key channel for donations.
