Tax rebates don't help Wal-Mart
The No. 1 retailer said tax rebates haven't had an "overly significant" impact on sales. Retailers hoped the $38 billion tax rebate would boost spending. Wal-Mart also backed analyst estimates for third-quarter profit of 33 cents a share. For the fourth, it sees earnings of 48-49 cents. Analysts expect 49 cents.

Corinthian Colleges still failing,
drags other school stocks down
The for-profit college fell 2.16 to 32.83, for a three-day slide of 37.8%. Corinthian warned last week it might miss estimates this quarter. Investors are also worried about bad debt. Education Management dived 12%, Career Education 6% and Apollo Group 9%. The Commercial Services-Schools group tanked 5.2%, the day's worst performer.
