Wells Fargo Small Cap Opportunities Fund tries to use a one-two punch when it comes to picking stocks.
That's the way portfolio manager Ira Unschuld likes to put it.
He wants to invest his money in a company that first is showing strong earnings growth, and second whose stock has good potential for price-earnings multiple expansion.
"We want growth at a reasonable price," says Unschuld. "We don't invest in stocks that are going along with a hope and prayer and no earnings, like some early-stage biotech issue."
Small Cap Opportunities, with $323 million in assets, is doing well this year despite what Unschuld describes as "a tricky market environment."
