Devon to buy gas firm Anderson
Devon Energy will buy Canadian natural gas firm Anderson Exploration for $3.4 billion cash, or $25.80 a share. The deal creates the largest U.S. oil and gas producer. Devon will assume $1.2 billion in debt. Devon will have a long-term stake in the natural gas fields of the Canadian Arctic. It's paying a 51% premium for Anderson shares, which soared 8.34, or 49%, to 25.41. Devon fell 2.41, or 5%, to 43.86.
Santa Fe Int'l to pay $3 bil stock
for offshore driller Global Marine
The deal will create one of the world's largest offshore drilling contractors. The new firm, GlobalSantaFe, will be based in Houston and operate more than 100 rigs. Santa Fe will pay 0.665 of a share for each Global Marine share. Santa Fe dropped 9% on the news, and Global Marine gained 4%.
