Compared with the whipsaw patterns of many other stocks on the market, Cheesecake Factory's 38-week base has been a fairly calm affair. The stock hit a new high on July 23, then pulled back to form a handle. Such moves tend to shake out the last of a stock's fainthearted investors, clearing the way for a new run.
The firm operates 44 restaurants that bear its name, as well as a bakery production facility that churns out more than 50 types of cheesecake for its restaurants and other food service operators.
Its earnings growth has ranged from 20% to 45% in the last five quarters. Analysts surveyed by First Call expect profit to rise 25% in fiscal 2001 vs. a 39% increase in 2000.
Sales growth has ranged from 21% to 32% the last seven quarters.
