We're only eight months into 2001, but you could say AmSurg Corp. already has had a year's worth of growth.
The company owns and operates outpatient clinics. In previous statements, officials announced plans to open 12 to 15 centers a year.
But as Chief Executive Ken McDonald points out: "We're already at 12 (this year)."
Eleven of those centers came by acquisition. AmSurg set up the other one itself. That brings the U.S. total to 92 in 28 states.
McDonald says the firm didn't set out this year to launch a faster-than-usual acquisition campaign. But the increased willingness of doctors to join the AmSurg fold reflects the maturity of the 9-year-old company, he says.
"I think it's a tribute to the size of AmSurg and our recognition and good name in the market," he said.
