"Debategate' aide gets year in jail

A judge sentenced a low-level aide to George W. Bush's presidential campaign to a year in jail for mailing secret debate material to Al Gore's campaign and then lying about it to a grand jury. Juanita Lozano, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud and perjury, admitted leaking a practice videotape and other confidential debate material. Lozano was a Democratic precinct chairwoman in Austin, Texas, before last year's race. The Gore campaign gave the material to the FBI.

Republicans mobilized their parties' voters more effectively than Democrats in the 2000 presidential election, according to a voter report.
