GM makes new bid for Daewoo
The offer excluded the bankrupt automaker's largest and oldest plant, which employs almost half of its South Korean work force. That plant has been a stumbling block. The talks continue. GM and partner Fiat made an initial bid in May. Ford made a nonbinding $6.04 billion offer 11 months ago, but delay has battered Daewoo's value.
Jet orders to keep falling in 2002
No relief is in sight as global airlines bleed money and face a rough 2002, industry experts said. Last year, carriers ordered a net 1,081 jets. By mid-2001, they'd placed just 480, consulting firm Teal Group said. It sees 600 orders this year and 300 in 2002. Big airlines have also retired jets due to weak demand.
