If you're in the market for an inkjet printer, you've noticed they're practically giving them away.
Why? Because once you acquire the printer, you still need supplies to use it.
"Over the life of an inkjet printer, dollars spent on ink cartridges are often 10 times the cost of the printer itself," said analyst David Manthey of Robert W. Baird.
That's helped firms such as Daisytek International Corp. stay afloat amid the information technology slowdown.
The company sells computer consumables such as toner and inkjet cartridges, diskettes, tape products and copier supplies. Even in a pinch, end users need to replace those goods.
