The Nasdaq finished up Wednesday for a second straight day. The index gapped up in the morning before ending up 2% on heavier volume.
Green Mountain Coffee notched a new high, adding 2.86 to 41.27 as trade doubled. On Monday last week, the maker of specialty coffee cleared a nine-week base and now sits 20% above its pivot point. The stock belongs to the Retail/Wholesale-Food group, which in the past nine weeks has jumped to No. 13 from 93rd among IBD's 197 industry groups.
Movie Gallery also hit a new high, gaining 3.13 to 31.86 on nearly triple its typical turnover. The video rental retailer has been in an uptrend since February, rising nearly eightfold. The stock has a 99 Composite Rating.
SRI/Surgical Express rose 3.75 to 36 as volume tripled. On Tuesday, the provider of surgical products slid below its 50-day moving average. But on Wednesday, the stock bounced off the line, coming within 14% of its high.
Career Education reached a new intraday high, adding 3.30 to 64.30 on brisk trade. Late Tuesday, the for-profit post-secondary education provider beat second-quarter profit views by 3 cents. The firm also announced a 2-for-1 stock split.
