Doctors implant chips to restore sight
Illinois doctors last week implanted three more microscopic chips in the eyeballs of men suffering from retinal damage. It's the second phase of a study to determine if the chips can restore human vision, doctors said. They aim to reverse blindness caused by retinitis pigmentosa, a hereditary condition that gradually degenerates the retina. Ophthalmologist Alan Chow said results won't be revealed for several months until the Food and Drug Administration reviews data.
