Peregrine And IBM

Make Infrastructure Pact

Peregrine Systems Inc. on Wednesday will announce plans to outsource its computer infrastructure operations to IBM Corp. in what IBM called a "very sizable" multiyear deal. Peregrine is a business-to-business marketplace that processes 1.2 million e-commerce transactions daily, with an annual value of $280 billion. There are 44,000 members of its Get2Connect trading system.

An IBM spokesman called the deal the next generation of enterprise computing. Few companies have attempted to outsource and assimilate a network of this size, consisting of multiple disparate elements. The contract was awarded to IBM's Global Service Group, one of IBM's largest operations. It employs 130,000.

While IBM will be responsible for managing the system infrastructure, Peregrine will continue to offer and manage B2B services and applications for customers. IBM will also launch a dedicated consulting practice that will support Peregrine's business management solutions business.
