House nixes cloning of embryos
The House voted to reject the cloning of human embryos for scientific research, casting the first congressional votes on the rising ethical issue. The 249-178 vote killed an amendment to allow the limited creation of cloned embryos exclusively for research. It put the House in position to pass an outright ban on all human cloning.
