The area will cover about 1.5 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico, two senior officials said. The administration modified the area from approximately 6 million acres initially to about 1.5 million acres. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush opposed oil drilling off his coastline, but spokesmen said the change was "encouraging." Environmentalists also said the new plan was a lot better than the original one.
