3M cuts 2nd-qtr, full-year outlook
Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing blamed ongoing weakness in the U.S. economy, the slowdown in Europe and Asia and the strong dollar. 3M expects to earn $1.10 to $1.14 a share in the second quarter. Views were for $1.19. The Dow component expects weak conditions the rest of the year. It lowered its 2001 outlook to $4.50 to $4.75. Analysts expected $4.83. The news didn't faze investors, as 3M shares rose 3.16, or 3%, to 117.26, making it the biggest Dow winner.
Tyco sells loan unit to Lehman
The diversified conglomerate sold $1.6 billion worth of manufactured housing assets to the investment bank. Other terms weren't given. It's part of Tyco International's plan to unload $4 billion to $6 billion worth of assets held by its newly acquired financing arm, CIT Group. Tyco bought CIT last month for about $9.2 billion. Lehman Bros.' shares fell 2.35, or 3%, to 75.40.
