Court sends party spending case
to a lower court with instructions
The Supreme Court ordered a lower court to review a dispute over state caps on political party contributions in light of a ruling this week that upheld federal limits. In that case, the court said the U.S. may limit sums political parties may spend in concert with candidates. The case sent back involved direct-party contributions to candidates.
