Cheney To Get Pacemaker
"Insurance Policy,' He Says
1Vice President Cheney said he has an irregular heartbeat and will have a pacemaker implanted to restore his normal rhythm. He has a history of heart disease. Cheney, 60, said the implant is an "insurance policy," adding that doctors told him there was no reason why he couldn't resume his duties. Cheney has suffered four heart attacks since 1978, the most recent last November. He had an angioplasty in March.

Sees No Further EU Talks
2Merger hopes faded after General Electric said a last-ditch offer by Honeywell to cut $1.8 billion off the purchase price made no sense. As part of the offer, GE would have had to make new concessions to try to get European Commission approval. The EU is expected to block the deal when it votes Tuesday. GE had offered some new divestitures, but Europe said they weren't enough. One source said GE has no plans to negotiate further with European regulators. Honeywell shares tumbled 3.30, or 9%, to 34.90, while GE rose 0.13 to 49.
