Hotel Reservations surges 15%
The travel site rose 7.66 to a new high of 60.26 after reporting record one-day bookings of $3 mil on Feb. 27. The previous record of $2.5 mil was posted in Jan. The travel industry is still in the early stages of recovery. But Hotel Reservations Network, a unit of USA Networks, is benefiting as more and more hotel bookings are done online rather than via call centers.
Virus attacks on rise, study says
U.S. corporations were swarmed with 1.2 mil incidents from Jan. '00 to Aug. '01, said a study by ICSA Labs, a unit of security services firm TruSecure. In all, there were 113 encounters per 1,000 machines a month vs. 96 incidents per 1,000 computers in '96. Businesses use far more anti-virus security now.
