Air engine deal goes to U.S. firms

A joint venture of United Technologies' Pratt & Whitney and General Electric scored a key win as Dubai airline Emirates chose it over Rolls-Royce in a deal worth up to $1.5 bil. The two firms will supply engines for at least 22 A380 superjumbos from Airbus SAS, plus a possible 10 more that the airline optioned.

TRANSPORTATION

AMR forecasts "sizable' loss in Q1

American Airlines' parent also said it will likely suffer a full-year loss due to the lingering impact of Sept. 11. The news was no surprise after similar announcements by US Air and Continental. American fell 4%.

Delta Air CEO Leo Mullin told CNBC that traffic is improving and a "recovery is definitely in sight."
