Accounting firms back some limits
Big Five firms PricewaterhouseCoopers, Arthur Andersen and KPMG now support plans to prevent them from providing certain consulting services to audit clients. The move comes as the accounting industry strives to regain credibility in the wake of Enron's collapse. The industry fought bitterly against such limits a few years ago. Some critics noted that accounting firms are trying to prevent more sweeping bans.
Andersen assures British clients
The auditing firm sent two letters in the past week to clients to try to allay concerns about the firm's involvement in the Enron debacle. The latest letter reassured clients that despite facing investigation and possible litigation over its role as Enron's auditor, it was doing business as usual.
