The Nasdaq fought its way higher Thursday, tacking on 1.1%.
Earnings scores determined the fate of many of the day's biggest movers. These included OSI Systems, which shot out of a nine-week base as it popped up 3.59 to 25.17. The gain helped make its Computer-Optical Recognition group one of the day's top-performing industries.
OSI, which controls 40% of the market for carry-on baggage scanners, posted December second-quarter profit of 12 cents a share. That tripled last year's 4 cents .
Meanwhile, pharmaceutical distributer D&K Healthcare climbed 2.39 to a new high of 64.39. Volume rose more than threefold.
Pharmaceutical Product Development added 4.22 to 32.45, moving back above its 50- and 200-day moving averages. Late Wednesday the firm met estimates with fourth-quarter earnings of 24 cents a share. It also upped ...
