Idec Pharmaceuticals has worked its way back to within 9% of the top of the base it began back in December 2000.
The San Diego-based drug maker's product line includes Rituxan, which is used to treat non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
After hitting the triple digits in late 1999 and early 2000, Idec's earnings growth rate has slowed slightly in recent quarters.
Second-quarter profit rose 67% and third-quarter profit grew 60%. Analysts surveyed by First Call expect fourth-quarter profit to climb 33%. Overall, earnings are expected to swell 64% in 2001 and 54% in 2002.
