CIOs see tech spending up 3%
Corporate IT spending will inch up in '02 as firms refocus on security in the wake of Sept. 11, a Merrill Lynch survey found. Last year tech spending slid 1%. At the start of '01, CIOs expected IT spending to grow 9%. Most CIOs cut budgets at least twice in '01, mostly in staffing, consulting and hardware.

Report quells AOL '01 good news
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter questioned if AOL Time Warner can sustain its subscriber growth. The media titan's America Online unit said member Web buying jumped 67%, topping $33 bil last year. Q4 spending jumped to $11 bil, up 72%, helped by $7.2 bil in holiday sales.
